Brolinson


Per Gunnar Brolinson, D.O.

Dr. Brolinson is Professor of Family and Sports Medicine and the Discipline Chair for Sports Medicine and the Associate Dean for Clinical Research at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Team Physician for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and Medical Director for the Biomechanics Lab at VCOM. He is also a volunteer physician for the United States Olympic Committee and Team Physician for the United States Ski Team. Dr. Brolinson is board certified in family practice and holds subspecialty certification in sports medicine. He is the director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at VCOM and Virginia Tech. Dr. Brolinson is a fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Family Practice and the American College of Osteopathic Family Practice.  His current research interests include mild traumatic brain injury in sports, impact biomechanics, human factors in automobile safety, oxidative stress in athletes, and ligament augmentation therapies.

Beato
Greg Beato, D.O.

Greg Beato, D.O. received his B.S. in Sports Medicine from Mercyhurst College, in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he also played Intercollegiate Volleyball. He then graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005 with his osteopathic medical degree. Staying in the Delaware Valley, Dr Beato completed his Internal Medicine residency at Christiana Care Health System, in Newark, Delaware. Having completed the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at VCOM/VT, Dr. Beato has recently joined Medical Associates of Southwest Virginia, in Blacksburg, where he practices both Internal Medicine and non-surgical sports medicine and orthopedics. He has also joined the staff at VT Sports Medicine as one of the head team physicians, and continues to be involved in graduate medical education at Montgomery Regional Hospital.


Bennett
Gary Bennett, Ph.D.

Gary Bennett, Ph.D. is a Staff Psychologist with Virginia Tech Athletics and the Cook Counseling Center at the McComas Hall. He has a special interest in Sports Psychology and will train the residents in the psychological care of the athlete.


Bolin
Delmas Bolin, M.D. Ph.D.

Delmas Bolin, M.D. Ph.D. serves as Associate Director of the Program. Dr. Bolin is fellowship trained and board certified in family practice and sports medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. He serves EVVCOM as an Assistant Professor of Family and Sports Medicine. He serves as Team Physician for Radford University’s Athletics Department.  Dr. Bolin has extensive experience in Sports Medicine Residency administration and teaching, serving for 3 years as the Co-Director of the University or Pittsburg Medical Center St. Margaret Sports Medicine Residency in Pittsburgh.


Doolan
Amy Doolan, D.O.

Amy Doolan, D.O. received her B.S. in Biology and her M.S. Ed. from Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Virginia. She then graduated from the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007 with her osteopathic medical degree. Dr. Doolan completed her internship and Family Medicine Residency at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, followed by the Sports Medicine Fellowship at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is currently an assistant professor in the Departments of Family and Sports Medicine at VCOM and provides Family and Sports medicine to the community at Academic Primary Care Associates in Blacksburg, as well as serving as a Team Physician for Virginia Tech.


Goforth
Mike Goforth, M.S., A.T.C.

Mike Goforth, M.S., A.T.C. is the Assistant Director of Athletics for Athletic Training Services at Virginia Tech and has many years of experience in clinical athletic training. His clinical interests include concussion in sports and brace design and fabrication. he gives frequent didactic lectures in the sports medicine curriculum and is also often presents regionally and nationally on sports topic events.


Lo
Hing Har Lo, M.D.

Hing Har Lo, M.D. will direct the training of the resident in radiology and is the Chair of the Radiology Department at EVVCOM. She will coordinate the monthly sports and musculoskeletal radiology grand rounds.


Roger
Mark Rogers, D.O., M.A.

After finishing his bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Dr. Rogers completed a Master's degree in Health Care Ethics from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, followed by his Osteopathic Medicine degree from Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center. He then went on and completed his family medicine residency training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a Sports Medicine fellowship at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Virginia Tech. Dr. Rogers is board certified in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He is an assistant professor in the Departments of Family and Sports Medicine at VCOM, and serves as Team Physician for Virginia Tech. His primary interests are in sports medicine, health promotion and preventive care, undergraduate medical education and osteopathic manual medicine. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He currently provides sports and family medicine to the community at Academic Primary Care Associates in Blacksburg, VA.


Jennie Schafer

Jennie Schafer is in her first year as the Director of Sports Nutrition in the Virginia Tech Athletic Department.  Schafer is responsible for all nutrition and performance related concerns for Varsity student-athletes including individual counseling, team talks, body composition analysis using the Bod Pod, recovery nutrition plans, grocery store tours, travel menu planning, and supplement education.   Schafer received two undergraduate degrees from Roanoke College, where she competed in basketball for four years, and Virginia Tech, where she is also finishing her Masters degree.  Schafer is a Registered Dietitian with the American Dietetic Association (ADA), a member of Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA), and serves on the VT Nutrition & Performance Committee.  Schafer served as the Graduate Assistant for the Sports Nutrition Program prior to her hire as Director.

Stephanie Aldret, D.O.

Stephanie Aldret, D.O. received her B.S. in Health and Sports Sciences from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, and a B.S. in Chemistry/Forensic Science from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK.  She then received her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, OK in 2008.  Dr Aldret completed her Family Medicine Residency at Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa, OK, in 2011.  Her interests are in primary care sports medicine and osteopathic manipulation.  She hopes to incorporate both into her future practice as well as teach residents and future physicians


Dan Day, D.O.

Dan Day, D.O. was born in Rochester, NY and attended Penn State University for his undergraduate degree. He completed Medical School at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Residency in Family Practice at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City New York.  He’s spent most of his life involved in sports and is thrilled to be continuing his medical training in the VT/VCOM Sports Medicine Fellowship.  He is also certified in acupuncture, and hopes to incorporate it and the OMM skills he is further developing in our program in his future practice.


Brad McCrady, D.O.

Brad McCrady, D.O. I have been a southwestern Virginia resident for most of my life, graduating from Northside High School.  I went on to play football at Bridgewater College and I was then in the inaugural graduating class at VCOM.  My osteopathic rotating internship was at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center in Lititz, PA and I completed my physical medicine & rehabilitation residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.  My sports medicine interests include strength and conditioning and neurologic injuries in sports.  I am very excited to be back in the region and to care for the athletes of Virginia Tech and the surrounding schools.
