Missouri Flood Disaster Response & Relief Fund:

Beginning Monday, March 18th and through Wednesday, torrential rains fell across the central United States. One of the hardest hit areas is Piedmont, Missouri where more than twelve inches of rain caused streams and rivers to overflow their banks. In Piedmont the center of downtown was covered with two to three feet of water. About 300 of the 900 homes had to be evacuated. The town’s water was cut off when the bridge carrying the pipeline was destroyed by the river. Several people have died as a result of the flooding.

The waters are receding, but they are leaving behind a soggy mess of debris and destroyed homes. In addition, the resources of the local authorities and healthcare providers are being stressed as they try to clean up the devastation and help displaced individuals put their lives back together.
On March 26, 2008 VCOM sent a team to Piedmont, Missouri to help in the relief efforts. The team helped in the cleanup and also provided medical care when appropriate.

Another goal of the relief team is to provide financial assistance to those who have lost their possessions and who need to obtain the basics of life such as food and water. The team returned to Virginia on March 30, 2008.

We know there are many who cannot go, but would still like to participate in providing relief.

VCOM has established a VCOM Missouri Flood Relief Fund.

All funds will be given directly to flood victims and none of the donations will be used for administrative expenses.

All donations are tax-deductible and VCOM will provide a receipt upon request.

HOW TO HELP:

We ask those VCOM family members and other individuals who want to help to directly support the relief efforts by providing financial support.
