Global Health Initiatives

The Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) students and faculty provide year round clinics in El Salvador, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic. The work in the Dominican Republic was recognized as part of the Clinton Global Initiative.

VCOM supports Global health education through:

  • Provide sustainable health care programs and health interventionss to developing countries and Appalachian underserved areas.
  • Telecommunications to mission sites to communicate with students and faculty
  • Telecommunications to medical college affiliates to provide ongoing continuing medical education
  • Hosting the Global Seminar on Environment and Health
    • Sites include: Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopatic Medicine (VCOM); Virginia Tech (VT); Cornell University; Medical Schools in Tegucigalpa, San Salvador, Dominican Republic, India, and Guatemala
  • Hosting the Global Forum for Environment and Health
    • Featured distinguished speakers broadcast to 60 sites around the world by GDLN - Global Development Learning Network
  • Providing a Global and Public Health Leadership - Fellowship, D.O./Ph.D. program for students aspiring to become Global Health Leaders
  • Providing third and fourth year medical student, intern, and resident clinical experiences in underserved care in both Appalachia and our International sites
