VCOM Password Requirements

1. Password needs to be at least 8 characters in length.
2. It cannot contain spaces.
3. It cannot contain your name.
4. It must contain at least three of these four types of characters:
    • Numbers: 0-9
    • Upper case English letters: A-Z
    • Lower case English letters: a-z
    • Special Characters: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) - _ = + [ { ] } \ | ; : ' " , < . > / ? ` ~
5. It must not contain your PID or your PID typed backwards.

Virginia Tech Password Requirements

1. It must be at least 8 and not more than 15 characters
2. It may not contain spaces
3. It must contain at least three of these four types of characters:
    • Numbers: 0-9
    • Upper case English letters: A-Z
    • Lower case English letters: a-z
    • Special Characters: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) - _ = + [ { ] } \ | ; : ' " , < . > / ? ` ~
4. It must not contain a dictionary word found in a standard English dictionary or a common noun, such as the name of a town or state, that is greater then 3 letters spelled correctly or backwards.
5. It must not contain your PID or your PID typed backwards
6. It must not contain a keyboard sequence of more then 3 characters such as: asdf, qwer, zxcv, poiu, lkjh.
7. It must not match your last 4 passwords or your current password

To report computer problems or questions, call the VCOM Help Line at 231-4400.
The help desk will log your information along with a brief description of the problem and generate a problem ticket for you. When the Information Technology department receives the problem ticket, a staff member will contact you to schedule a time to investigate the problem.
