Welcome to the Osteopathic Medicine Website!

The Mission of the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine is to prepare osteopathic primary care physicians to serve the rural and medically underserved areas of the Commonwealth of Virginia, North Carolina, and the Appalachian region and to provide scientific research that will improve the health of all humans.

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM, also referred to as Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (NMM) by the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine) is the medical specialty which is concerned the integration of osteopathic principles, practice and manipulative treatment in patient care. The focus of this specialty is on the neuromusculoskeletal systems and their relationships with every other system in the body, including, but not limited to, cardiac, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, endocrine, reproductive, genitourinary, dermatologic, vascular, lymphatic, psychologic, ophthalmologic, ENT, and rheumatologic systems.

This website will highlight the Osteopathic/Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (OMM/NMM) rotation sites along with providing informative links to assist in the education of the VCOM student. The purpose of the clerkship is to ensure that the OMSIII develop a full understanding, appreciation, and technical skill toward an integrative approach to the care of patients, families, and communities. This website, in addition to the associated links, will help you learn about and how to implement OMM/NMM into your future practice, regardless of your particular areas of interest, level or focus of training. It is my hope that you find OMM/NMM an indispensable tool for your future work to increase your patients' quality of life.
