New Biomedical Faculty Researchers
The Office of Research Administration: Grants & Funding

rom its beginning in 2003,
the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) has pursued an active research program with the stated goal to improve human health. The initial research of the College was geared toward expanding the knowledge base of biomedical sciences. VCOM’s Office of Research Administration (ORA) supports the research programs of the College. ORA assists faculty in applying for and securing external funds in support of their research.
VCOM’s Office of Research Administration (ORA) directs and supports the research programs of the College. ORA assists faculty in applying for and securing external funds in support of their, and VCOM’s, professional interests.
The ORA serves as a liaison among investigators, VCOM administration and funding agencies. The ORA is responsible for the pre-award and post-award support of sponsored programs. In addition, the ORA is charged with actively pursuing grant funding for the educational, training, and outreach of the College. In the 2007-2008 academic year, VCOM expanded its research efforts to include projects directed at improving the practice of primary care medicine and public health practices.
VCOM receives this extramural funding as a result of proposals developed by faculty members and professional staff on a national, competitive, peer-reviewed basis.
Through partnerships with neighboring universities and colleges, local communities and hospitals, and federal agencies, VCOM faculty and staff have experienced another year of growth in the College’s research base. Since VCOM began its research program in 2003, award amounts have increased over 300 percent – from $500,000 in fiscal year 2003 to nearly $1.8 million anticipated for the 2008 fiscal year
