Admissions Requirements


Applicants for admission must meet the following requirements prior to entry into the post-baccalaureate program:

  1. Earned baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  2. The required undergraduate courses for entry are:
    1. Biological Sciences: One year
    2. Physics: One year
    3. Inorganic Chemistry: One year
    4. Organic Chemistry: One year
    5. English: One year
      (Laboratories for Biological Sciences, Physics, Inorganic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry are strongly encouraged for all applicants)
  3. GPA: The minimum overall GPA for acceptance is a 2.75 in the last 120 credit hours or overall. Competitive GPAs are considered at 3.0 or greater in science and overall, on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Standardized Test Scores: MCAT scores or other graduate-level standardized test scores are desired but not required.
  5. All students are required to meet the VCOM Technical Standards for Admission and Continued Enrollment. (http://www.vcom.vt.edu/post-baccalaureate/technical-health.html) All students must affirm by signature that he/she has read and meets the standards. Any falsification or misinformation regarding the ability to meet technical standards is grounds for dismissal.
Note: Many criteria play a role in the admissions process to professional schools and to be competitive, students must have grades significantly higher than a “C.”  While the Post-Baccalaureate Program provides an opportunity for the student to demonstrate academic capability, it does not assure admission to a professional school.
