Welcome to Pediatrics!

A few of the goals and objectives for the third and fourth years are listed below:

  1. Gain experience and become proficient as a member of a health care team in an outpatient setting.
  2. Identify common pediatric medical problems seen in an outpatient setting.
  3. Gain proficiency in the evaluation of growth and development, and anticipatory guidance.
  4. Develop competency in pediatric history and physical exam skills, and their interpretation.
  5. Recognize the role of the pediatrician as an advocate for the child and their family.
  6. Utilize a knowledge base to make clinical judgment and diagnosis.
  7. Identify preventive strategies in pediatrics and how they can be used.
  8. Establish good communication with parents and caregivers.
  9. Select the correct pharmacologic therapy when needed.
  10. Select the appropriate osteopathic therapy when indicated.
  11. Recognize cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic factors that affect child health.
  12. Identify the underlying pathophysiology responsible for illness.
