July 22-24, 2011 Wise, VA RAM Event

This year VCOM’s volunteer attendance at the Wise, Virginia RAM was very successful! Ten medical students participated with five VCOM faculty. Drs. Callahan, Martin, Frasca, Harden and Warren to deliver health care, assisted by students Jared Harrison, Jessica Bookbinder, Brittany Calico, Patricia Feeney, Alecia Fields, Alex Karamalegos, Ryan Mullane, Amanda Mullis, Jessica Ramsey, and Aaron Rudd. During the 3 day event patients were treated in the OMM tents and the medical tent; with the addition of Dr. Callahan this year, Women’s Health was also provided. OMM treatments were provided to over 200 patients.  VCOM students worked in the medical tent with medical students from UVA and MCV to treat patients with a wide variety of problems.   Dr. Martin observed students who were serving others with joy and anticipation as well as the faculty who attended.  The organizers of this UVA RAM are very happy for our continued yearly involvement and the patients are very appreciative of the medical care they have been provided. We look forward to returning next year to the RAM at Wise VA.
