In pursuit of this mission, we are seeking candidates from underserved regions, who are under-represented in health care fields, who have maintained at least an average GPA of 2.75 to participate in a 4-day human anatomy program. |

The inaugural A.T. Still Osteopathic Cup will pit the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine against the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine with proceeds to benefit the Center for Autism.

he Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) announced that it will hold its Sixth Annual Via Research Recognition Day on Friday, October 16, 2009. Research Day is a significant event for VCOM and supports the mission of the College to provide medical education and research that prepares globally minded, community-focused physicians and to improve the health of those most in need.
Professor Ferid Murad, M.D., Ph.D. from Houston, TX, who received his Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in 1998, has agreed to be the Keynote Speaker for the event. Dr. Murad’s research involves on the formation, metabolism and function of nitric oxide as they participate in various cellular signaling processes in the cardiovascular system and making blood vessels dilate. The Virginia Tech Sports Medicine Association and the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) will be holding a sports medicine clinic for athletic trainers, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, physicians and any other interested allied health professionals. The goal of our clinic is to provide an opportunity for learning and sharing techniques in managing current issues in athletics. Participants will have the ability to spend time in the state of the art cadaver laboratory at VCOM, where we will be working with prosected cadavers to identify major anatomical structures and injury scenarios that relate to the topics discussed. There will also be lectures and breakout groups that cover evaluation techniques, bracing, and rehabilitation tips. We encourage you to take advantage of this great opportunity to share information with fellow colleagues!
