Greetings Members of VCOM--Carolinas Campus Inaugural Class,
Today I travel to the Virginia Campus to participate in VCOM’s first curriculum retreat between the Carolinas and Virginia Campuses’ Chairs and faculty. We expect to solidify not only the joint curriculum for Block 1 but hope to complete Block 2 as well. I have completed the Hiring Update for the Carolinas faculty and Chairs as part of our COCA Hiring Plan which will be submitted for the July 1 COCA deadline. I am pleased to report we have assembled a wonderful group of biomedical science faculty who will all be present for our retreat in Virginia. They will be working with their counterparts to write uniform objectives, select text books and compare our curriculum with national standards. Our building continues on schedule with plans for moving to be completed by the last week in July--just in time for our first day of orientation scheduled for August 8th. This is an exciting time at VCOM—Carolinas. We are eager to welcome you all to begin your journey to becoming osteopathic physicians. Travel safely. See you in August!

We are eagerly anticipating your arrival in August! Orientation will be August 8-10, 2011 and is required for all incoming VCOM students. Throughout these three days, we will provide you with a breadth of information regarding the curriculum, student services, and the campus community. The formal orientation program will run from 8am-5pm each day with optional activities in the evenings. While the formal
orientation program is only for VCOM students, we will provide an opportunity for your loved ones to get acquainted with the VCOM family. I will send out a tentative agenda in July. We are looking forward to VCOM-Carolinas Campus’ inaugural year! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call (864-398-5004) or email (lridgeway@vcom.vt.edu).
The deadline for tuition and fees is August 15, 2011. Students are highly encouraged to fill out a direct deposit form if they will be receiving a financial aid refund. Students who sign up for direct deposit almost always receive their living expense refund earlier than students that opt for paper checks. Signing up for direct deposit is easy. Students need to fill out the direct deposit form (which can be found on the Class of 2015 website) and include a voided check or deposit slip. If you have difficulty filling out the form, our Business Office in Blacksburg can assist you. Please make sure you have at least signed the form and attached a voided check or deposit slip, and we can take care of the rest.
Since financial aid refunds will be processed from the main campus in Blacksburg, we are requesting that you send the filled out form with a voided check or deposit slip to our Associate Controller, Rachel Potters, in Blacksburg. You may fax the information to her at 540-231-5338, email a pdf to her at rpotters@vcom.vt.edu or send it through the mail to the following address:
VCOM
ATTN: Rachel Potters
2265 Kraft Drive
Blacksburg, VA 24060
The form can also be found on our website.
August will be here before we realize it. By July 1st, you will receive an email from the Registrar (registrar-carolinas@vcom.vt.edu) and/or The Office of Clinical Education (studenthealth@vcom.vt.edu) regarding any missing transcript, immunization documentation, health insurance, and CPR certification. Please check your VCOM email for any correspondence from the Registrar’s Office and The Office of Clinical Education.
There is required documentation due prior to matriculation for all accepted students into the Class of 2015.
Please refer to Class of 2015 New Student Website for these and any additional requirements for Matriculation.
