The Honorable Bill Hazel, Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources, recognized Dixie Tooke-Rawlins, D.O., Dean and Executive Vice President, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine for being selected Educator of the Year by the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF). This coveted award is made each year to an individual who exemplifies the osteopathic medical profession’s highest standards of excellence in teaching and long-standing contributions to academic advancement.
Dr. Rawlins received the recognition as many of Virginia’s top leaders looked on. The Health professional group included: Dr. Allen R. Perkins, Department of Family Medicine, University of South Alabama College of Medicine, Mobile, AL, and Jeremy Greenfield, Director of PAC & Advocacy, Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association. VHHA, a 39 member alliance of hospitals and health delivery systems, represents 108 community, psychiatric, rehabilitation and specialty hospitals throughout Virginia, among other dignitaries.
Dr. Rawlins message to the audience was summed up with, “Our mission is to improve the health status of the communities we serve by training physicians for rural Virginia and rural Appalachia.”
