The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) received notification from its accrediting body that the administration can proceed with accepting students for admission at the new VCOM-Carolinas Campus.
This final action allows medical school officials to formally accept students into its inaugural class for VCOM- Carolinas Campus, which begins August, 2011. According to Dean and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dixie Tooke-Rawlins, D.O., “Our first students attending the Carolinas Campus will have the benefit of being on a brand new campus and will have the excitement of being part of the inaugural class, however, they will also have the benefit of knowing that the College is fully accredited. As a branch campus, and with this final approval, full accreditation extends to both campuses of VCOM. We already heard from applicants that they are excited about this feature.” VCOM is accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the AOA, which is the only accrediting agency for pre-doctoral osteopathic medical education, and is recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE).
All applicants considered for admission at VCOM will be interviewed by faculty members as part of the admissions process. The first day of interviews, which will take place in VCOM offices across the street from the campus currently under construction on Howard Street, is scheduled for Thursday, September 16, 2010. William King, Associate Vice President, who oversees the admissions and student affairs
processes on both campuses commented, “We are pleased to welcome our first group of interviewees to Spartanburg. We are confident applicants will find VCOM a special place to consider for their medical education.”
Mattie Bendall, the Director of Admissions for VCOM-Carolinas Campus added, “We can’t wait for the first interviewees to come to Spartanburg. It will be so exciting to call that first set of applicants on the telephone after our first admissions committee meeting to welcome them into the inaugural class.”
