The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) is pleased to welcome the first faculty and staff hires for the Carolinas Campus in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The charter administrators and faculty are from Spartanburg and the surrounding areas as VCOM focuses on the tremendous talent of the Carolinas in their search for faculty, staff and students that have a passion for serving in the Carolinas region. Located in downtown Spartanburg, the VCOM Carolinas campus will educate 150 students annually in the pursuit of medical degrees. The new administrators and faculty will include Ronald Januchowski, D.O. as the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. Dr. Januchowski is currently the Director of Student Medical Education for Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mattie Bendall has been appointed Director of Admissions, and Lindsey McKinney as the Director of Student Services. They are residents of Spartanburg and Greenville, respectively. The onsite VCOM administration will be headed up by Timothy J. Kowalski, D.O., Vice Dean for the VCOM Carolinas Campus. Dr. Kowalski has lived in Columbia, South Carolina, for the past 17 years and is currently the Medical Director for the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute, a children’s psychiatric hospital within the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. A Past President of the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners, Dr. Kowalski, is currently serving his third year on the Board.

About Osteopathic Physicians: Osteopathic physicians (D.O.s) are licensed in every state to practice the full scope of medicine, including examining patients, diagnosing illness, performing surgery, and writing prescriptions. D.O.s practice in every field of medicine as full physicians and since their training emphasizes principles that the body can heal itself given optimum conditions, disease prevention and proper nutrition and exercise are emphasized in their practice of medicine. D.O.s are also trained in musculoskeletal manipulation to address overall health needs of their patients.
