The Immunology Division consists of four Faculty members who teach first & second year students the foundations of immunologic principles. During this time we introduce the students to several of the more common disorders of immunosuppression and autoimmunity, and discuss how osteopathic principles can be applied to restoring health and homeostasis to an ailing patient. We use an interactive approach to learning and combine traditional lectures with case-based learning so that the students can integrate immunological principles with other basic sciences and with clinical medicine. The immunology course primarily resides in the first year of the curriculum, with each faculty member teaching in his or her specialty. Our faculty are also actively involved in basic and applied research projects. For more information regarding a particular faculty member, please see the Faculty page.
Our mission is to teach the students the basic scientific principles of medicine needed to successfully perform on the COMLEX and USMLE exams. Our department teaches with an emphasis on understanding general immunologic principles on the cellular and organ system levels, so that this information may be directly applied to improved understanding of the integrated organ systems that make up the human body.
