ABOUT DR. WILLIAMS: Richard Williams, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geriatrics and involved with instruction and lecturing in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). Dr. Williams completed a dual residency in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in June 1990 at the the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University where he also received his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctor of Medicine degrees. Dr. Williams began a private geriatric practice in North Carolina in 1990 and continued in the New River Valley through 2003. He joined the VCOM facility in October 2003 in the Department of Geriatrics and Internal Medicine. Dr Williams Chaired the Department of Geriatrics from 2005-2007. Dr. Williams’ clinical interests include improving care of the nursing home patient and improving outcomes in high risk cardiovascular patients. He has also completed a fellowship in antiaging and functional medicine and incorporates this in the elderly population and selected internal medicine cases. |

ABOUT DR. ALLEN: Jill Allen, M.D. is originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan. She graduated cum laude with an A.B. degree from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She then returned to Michigan to attend the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, graduating in 1993. She spent her first two years of residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Emergency Medicine. She then completed her residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, where she also served as a Chief Resident. She currently is the Medical Director and an Attending Physician at MeadowView Terrace, a long term care facility in Clarksville, Virginia. Dr. Allen is American Board Certified in Family Medicine. |

ABOUT DR. BOSHRA: Soheir Boshra, M.D., completed her medical school training at Alexandria School of Medicine in Egypt. She is a graduate of the Carilion's Family Medicine Residency and the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship. She joined the Carilion Clinic faculty in 2004. Dr. Boshra holds a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine with the University of Virginia. In this role, she teaches the family medicine residents at long-term care facilities. Dr. Boshra is a geriatrician with the Carilion Center for Health Aging, leading comprehensive geriatric assessment clinics in both Roanoke and Bedford. She is also Medical Director at Brandon Oaks Retirement Community, Berkshire Health and Rehab, Friendship Manor Healthcare and Program Director for the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship. She is married and has two brilliant daughters! She enjoys interior design and is very involved with her church. |

ABOUT DR. CAMARDI: Since joining the Medical Staff of the Carilion Clinic in July of 2006: Dr Michael J Camardi was named as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine an Assistant Professor, Clinical Track,Disipline of Internal Medicine/Geriatrics at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine as well an Assistant Professor at the Carillion- Virginia Tech School of Medicine where he sits on the Board of Admissions. He is Board Certified in his specialty of Internal Medicine with a Geriatric Nursing Home practice in Roanoke where he is Medical Director of 2 Skilled Nursing Facilities. He serves as the Program Co-Ordinatior of Geriatric Teaching for the Department of Internal Medicine Residency Program of the Carilion Clinic. In addition, he is the Medical Director of the Mild Cognitive Impaired Clinic at the Center for Healthy Aging, for the Section of Geriatrics, Department of Internal Medicine of the Carilion Clinic. He was voted the "Outstanding Attending" by the Department of Internal Medicine Residency Program, the Department of Medicine of the Carilion Clinic 2007-2008. He is a newspaper columnist for the Roanoke Times writing a monthly column on health topics called "Age Matters" commencing in 2008. His work as a clinician was documented while a member of the staff of the Carilion Clinic's "Center for Healthy Ageing" in the Roanoke Times newspaper series "Age of Uncertainty" in 2008. He was a subject of the video documentary "Warrior for the Elderly" as teaching faculty of the Section of Geriatrics, Department of Internal Medicine in the in the Roanoke Times/PBS documentay,"Age of Uncertainty" 2009. He represented the Carilion Clinic in a live panel discussion discussion of Alzheimer's Disease for the television series "Health Quest" for BlueRidge PBS 2010 This past July he celebrated his 30th year as a physician. |

ABOUT DR. FANT: Vanessa Sturgill Fant, M.D., was born in Galax, Virginia and grew up in Grayson County, Virginia. She attended Emory and Henry College, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in mathematics. After her undergraduate studies, she graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. She and her husband married after medical school and they traveled to Charleston, South Carolina, where she completed her family medicine residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. They returned to Galax, Virginia where she practiced primary care including obstetrics, inpatient and outpatient medicine, as well as nursing home. After the birth of her first child, she started practicing geriatrics in the nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Dr. Fants family has now expanded to include her oldest daughter, age 4, another daughter age 2, and her newest son, age 4 months. Dr. Fant enjoys spending as much time as possible with her growing family and playing banjo as well as outdoor activities. Dr. Fant is a member of AMDA, AMA, and AAFP and was inducted as a fellow into the Academy of Family Physicians in 2009. |

ABOUT DR. GADDAM: Dr.Gaddam has completed his Medical education at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, India in 1996. He then practiced OB-GYN for 5 years after been Board Certified in Jamaica, West Indies. He practiced in primary care in Jamaica for 2 years then moved over to United states in 2004 to complete a year of Intership in General Surgery at New York Hospital & Medical Center of Queens, Flushing, New York. He then moved on to Roanoke, Virginia to complete Family Practice Residency at Carilion Roanoke - Salem Residency Program and is Board Certified since 2008. He further on completed a Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at Carilion Clinic in 2009. Dr.Gaddam joined as Faculty at Carilion Clinic since 2009, currently serves as an Assistant Professor in Medicine at Carilion- Virginia Tech School of Medicine since 2010 He is Medical Director of Berkshire Nursing Home Unit 2 and Assitant Director of Carilion Hospice. He is actively involved in the Inpatient Palliative care unit at Carilion Clinic. |

ABOUT DR. GOAD: Bradley J. Goad, D.O. was born and raised in Mount Airy, NC. He received a BS-Biochemistry at Virginia Tech in 1996. After finishing Virginia Tech, he transferred to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV for his medical education. In 2000, he transferred to East Tennessee State University to complete training in Internal Medicine. He served as Chief Resident in 2003 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. After completing residency, Dr. Goad and his family moved to Galax, VA to join Carilion Medical Group. He worked in a “traditional” Internal Medicine role serving patients in the office, hospital, and nursing homes. He quickly realized that his heart was in Geriatrics so he gradually started adding more nursing homes to his practice. After leaving Carilion in 1997, he founded Mid-Atlantic ElderCare, PLLC which provides professional medical services to Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities in North Carolina and Virginia. He is a Certified Medical Director through the American Medical Director’s Association and serves as Medical Director for several of these facilities as well as Hospice and Home Health Agencies. The company continues to grow rapidly and is considering expansion into Tennessee and Kentucky. Dr. Goad is also a Major in the United States Air Force Reserves where he serves as a Flight Surgeon. He is married with two children. He enjoys aviation, camping, hiking, and fishing. |

ABOUT DR. KNIGHT: Dr. Knight is a graduate of Bridgewater College and the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his family medicine residency with the Carilion Clinic Family Medicine program and a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at the University of Maryland. He has served as a Family Medicine Residency Director, Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Director, Medical Director at seven nursing facilities in two states, and was Regional Medical Director for Evercare, a Medicare Advantage company. In addition, Dr. Knight was the first Geriatric Chair at the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Knight holds current academic appointments at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (Associate Professor of Medicine and Family Medicine), the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Professor of Medical Specialties, Geriatrics), and the University of Virginia School of Medicine (Associate Professor of Clinical Family Medicine). He was previously Professor of Family Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Knight is Board Certified in Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Knight is currently the Section Chief for Geriatrics at Carilion Clinic and the Medical Director at Berkshire Health and Rehabilitation and the Roanoke United Methodist Home. He is active in the American Medical Director Association, where he is a Certified Medical Director. |

ABOUT DR. MORRIS: Dr. Morris received a double degree – a BS in Biology and a BA in English- from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. She received minors in Psychology and Chemistry. Dr. Morris attended the University of Florida College of Medicine from 1989-1993 where she received her MD degree. For her residency training, she attended the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program where she was Chief Resident and became board certified in Family medicine in 1996. She recently re-certified in Family Medicine in 2009. Dr. Morris has worked in a variety of clinical settings including private practice, urgent care and several faculty positions at East Tennessee University Family Medicine Residency Program, AB Technical Community College Critical Care EMT/Paramedic course, and MAHEC Family Practice Residency Program. While at MAHEC, her interest in focusing on the care of the elderly led her to complete a Fellowship in Geriatrics in 2008. She currently holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatrics and is pursuing Certified Medical Director status. Currently, Dr. Morris is the Chief of Geriatrics & Extended Care and the Medical Director of the Community Living Center at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC where she precepts VCOM students during their 3rd year geriatrics rotation. She is also working on her certification in Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine. |

ABOUT DR. POLLIO: Dr. Pollio was born in Hopewell, VA and grew up in Philadelphia, PA. He received his BSE degree in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University in New Jersey in 1978. Dr. Pollio attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA for his medical education. He completed this in 1982, and went on to do his residency in Internal Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He achieved Board Certification in Internal Medicine in 1985. Due to his interest in geriatrics, and his desire to improve care in the nursing home setting, he obtained a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatric Medicine in 1990. He has subsequently passed Recertification Exams in 2000 and 2010. Dr. Pollio is currently working at the Salem VA Medical Center in the Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center as a Staff Geriatrician. |

ABOUT DR. SHEPPARD: Dr. Sheppard is a West Virginia native and completed a large majority of his education in his home state. Dr. Sheppard attended the University of Charleston from 1993-1995 before transferring to Marshall University where he obtained his B.S. in Biology in 1997 with honors. He went on to complete his medical education at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) in Lewisburg, WV and received his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine degree in 2001. Dr. Sheppard completed his Internal Medicine residency at Norton Community Hospital in 2004, where he was Chief Resident, and has worked in Wise County since. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Sheppard is an educator at Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine. He holds Board Certification in Internal Medicine and practices General Internal Medicine. Dr. Sheppard is a member of the American Osteopathic Association as well as the American College of Osteopathic Internists. Dr. Sheppard was chosen as WiseCounty’s Best of the Best Physician in 2010 by readers of The Coalfield Progress. |

ABOUT DR. WARD: Joseph Ward, M.D., FAAFP is a native of Mathews, Virginia. He graduated from Virginia Tech, BS Biology and from VCU/MCV with a MD degree. Dr. Ward also served his residency in the Riverside Hospital Family Practice program. Dr. Ward was in private family practice in Hampton, Virginia for 30 years. After a 6 month sabbatical, he began a new career in Geriatric medicine where he now serves as the Medical Director and attending physician at The Gardens of Warwick Forest, a 240 bed long term care facility in Newport News, Virginia. Dr. Ward is Board Certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Ward also belongs to the American and Virginia Academy of Geriatrics, The American and Virginia Medical Directors Association, the American, Virginia and Hampton Roads Academies of Family Medicine and the Medical Society of Virginia. Dr. Ward lives in Yorktown, Virginia with his wife Rose, a nurse in Family Medicine. They have two daughters, Jordan who attends UNC Charlotte and Evan who attends Virginia Tech. His hobbies include history, golf, cooking and travel. Dr. Ward also volunteers on the emergency response team at the Williamsburg Community Chapel. |
