VCOM recruits students from southern Appalachian states and particularly the rural areas of Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee. Students from Virginia and the Appalachian region have a priority for recruitment, which includes reviewing and admitting these applicants as a first priority.

Rural:

In addition VCOM has a commitment to recruiting additional students from all rural areas. It is the commitment of VCOM to meet the physician shortage and the needs that exist due to the lack of physicians practicing in rural areas. |

Minority:

VCOM recognizes the lack of medical care to minority populations. VCOM actively recruits qualified minority students who are underrepresented in health care. The population of the United States is growing in diversity. VCOM seeks a diverse student body to meet the needs of a diverse society. |

Mission-Minded:

VCOM has committed to a mission medicine program. Through the VCOM Mission Medicine program the College seeks students who are committed to mission medicine. The mission programs that all students have the opportunity to participate in were developed to train students in compassionate and altruistic care. This commitment is demonstrated throughout the VCOM curriculum. VCOM seeks students who share a personal mission of altruistic and compassionate care and of Mission medicine. |
