Keynote Speaker: “The Responsibility of Scientists in Our Time”
Professor Richard R. Ernst, Ph.D., Nobel Laureate, Laboratorium für Physikalische Chemie, Zürich, Switzerland.

This conference will offer:
A forum for health professionals in academic institutions, teaching hospitals, and practice sites to present or benefit from new inventions, interventions and programs intended to improve the health of all humans. Participants will have the opportunity to share their primary care research, prevention initiatives, translational studies, and identify collaborative opportunities.

VCOM Fall Open House

Please join us at our Fall Open House, scheduled from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 13.

Events include:

  • Tour of VCOM Campus
  • Review of Biomedical Curriculum and Clinical Rotations
  • OMM Demonstration
  • Open Discussion with a Panel of VCOM Students
  • An opportunity to meet with VCOM admissions staff at the conclusion of the Open House. Appointments are first-come, first-served.

The itinerary for the Open House is firm and will utilize the full time frame. Please arrive by 1:00 p.m. and plan to stay the whole afternoon.

Spring Open House Postponed

The Virginia Tech and VCOM communities are in a state of shock and disbelief as we try to digest the tragedy that occurred on campus yesterday. We are pulling together for a convocation and candlelight vigil on the VT campus today and will continue to provide counseling on the VCOM campus throughout the week.

Due to recent events, the VCOM Admissions Spring Open House has been postponed until Saturday, May 19 from 1:00 - 5:30. We hope your schedule will permit a visit to campus on this alternate date. Please respond to this message by emailing us at admissions@vcom.vt.edu at your convenience to notify us of your intention attend the Open House on Saturday, May 19.

VCOM Spring Open House

Please join us on the campus of the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine campus for the Spring Open House on Saturday, May 19 from 1:00-5:30 p.m.

During this time frame, you will have the opportunity to meet our President, Dr. Jim Wolfe, review our medical curriculum and opportunities for clinical rotations, tour our new facility including a session in our first-rate anatomy lab featuring virtual cadavers and the best air quality in the country, participate in a panel discussion with our medical students, view an OMM demonstration and explore the unique aspects of osteopathic medicine.

You'll also have the opportunity to speak with our Admissions and Student Services Staff regarding your candidacy at our College. The itinerary for the Open House is firm and will utilize the full time frame. Please arrive by 1:00 p.m. and plan to stay the whole afternoon.

Annual Spring Residency Fair/Hospital Day

The Annual Spring Residency Fair/Hospital Day will be held at Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium in the South End Zone facility. Ample complimentary parking is available. First, second, third and fourth year students will be in attendance at this event. VCOM's inaugural class is in its fourth year with graduation scheduled for June 2, 2007.

Directions to the event at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, VA are as follows:

From Interstate 81:

  1. Take Exit 118B onto U.S. 460 West
  2. Stay on U.S. 460 to the traffic light at VA 314, Southgate Drive.
  3. Turn right onto Southgate Drive; go to first stoplight.
  4. Take left onto Spring Road - Lane Stadium will be to the right.
  5. Turn left into the parking lot across the street from the stadium.
  6. South End Zone facility will be on the left.
  7. Enter through Gate 2.

From U.S. 460 East:

  1. From U.S. 460 East take a left onto Southgate Drive.
  2. Follow the above directions to Lane Stadium.

VCOM Spring Hospital Day

The Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) is planning a Spring Hospital Day on Friday, March 31 2006. VCOM's inaugural class is now in its third year. Both second and third year students will be in attendance at the Hospital Day.

Some facts about VCOM:

  • VCOM is a member of A-OPTIC
  • Each class at VCOM has about 150 students
  • Over 60% of our students are from the states of Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Kentucky
  • Our next "tier" of states from where students are from include: Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Florida, Alabama, Michigan, Texas, Utah and Midwestern states
  • Many students have an interest in rural practice opportunities
Our average age entering VCOM is 26. We have a diverse group of students, many with prior healthcare experience.

4th Annual Center for Injury Biomechanics Instructional Symposium: Automobile Safety and Injury Biomechanics
October 14 and 15, 2005

This symposium, sponsored by the Center for Injury Biomechanics, will be held Friday and Saturday, October 14 and 15, 2005, from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm at The Inn at Virginia Tech - Skelton Conference Center, Blacksburg, Virginia.

This two-day interactive course includes lectures, demonstrations, and opportunities for "hands on" learning. The course presents both introductory and advanced topics with background information provided on all concepts. The information is particularly useful for physicians and medical professionals, engineers, attorneys, and students in medical, engineering, or legal fields.
