Interests :

Aging and gender in cardiac and cardiovascular disease: The steroid hormonal composition of men and women differs. These differences result in a sexual dimorphism that extends not just to the observable phenotype but also to the physiology of the heart and blood vasculature as people age. Our research focuses on the mechanisms of these differences. Specifically, we are interested in how sex steroids and age determine the biochemical, molecular biological, immunological, and biophysical responses of cardiac myocytes that predispose to arrhythmias and congestive heat failure. We are interested in how vasculature responses to autonomic stimulation differ as men and women age, and how their responses to microgravity will influence space exploration.
