Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a systemic
autoimmune disease characterized by the loss of tolerance to a variety
of self-antigens. Development of SLE is often associated with the
presence of autoreactive Th cells along with a reduction in regulatory
T cells. The nature and specificity of regulatory T cells that inhibit
autoantibody production and development of lupus remain largely undefined.
We study the role of regulatory T cells in lupus-prone MRL/lpr and
IRF-1-/- - MRL/lpr mice. |
