Leave of Absence and Withdrawal Policy

Leave of Absence

A student may be granted a Leave of Absence for a variety of reasons. The period of time for which a student has been approved leave shall be excluded from the maximum time frame in which an individual student will be expected to complete the program. The student shall return with the same progress status with which he/she left. Leaves of absence must be requested in advance according to the policies published in the VCOM Course Catalog.

A student may not receive any additional financial aid during a Leave of Absence and must return and complete that aid term before receiving financial aid for the subsequent aid term.

Withdrawal

Students may withdraw from school for a number of reasons before completing an academic year. The procedure for withdrawing is detailed in the VCOM Catalog.

For financial aid purposes, the student who withdraws after 60% of the academic year is completed will have the whole year counted and will not have to return funds for financial aid.

Return of funds for withdrawals that occur before the 60% point will be pro-rated and calculated utilizing the U.S. Department of Education's software for Return of Title IV Funds. Details on the return of Title IV funds can be found in the following section “Return of Title IV Funds Policy."
