ABOUT DR. HENDERSHOT:
Dr. Hendershot was raised in West Pittston, Pennsylvania and went on to study biology and physics at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA from 1983-1988. During his college years, Dr. Hendershot served in the US Navy Reserve as a hospital corpsman with a fleet hospital unit and cargo handling unit. Upon graduation, Dr. Hendershot was commissioned in the US Navy as a Medical Service Corps Officer, where he served as a Radiation Safety Officer and Medical Department Division Officer aboard the USS Dixon AS 37 in San Diego, CA from 1988-1991. For his service, Dr. Hendershot was awarded the US Navy Achievement Medal, US Navy Commendation, and Medical Service Warfare Pin.
Dr. Hendershot went on to attend the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic medicine from 1991-1995, where he received a U.S. Public Health Service Scholarship. Upon completion of medical school, he completed an Osteopathic Rotating Internship and Family Medicine Residency at St Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, PA from 1995-1998. He served as chief resident from 1997-1998.
From 1998-2002, Dr Hendershot worked as a Family Physician in rural Pennsylvania, working with underserved populations, the uninsured and migrant farm workers. In 2003, Dr Hendershot became a medical director for the Department of Justice and also worked part-time as an Emergency Room physician until 2008, when he joined the staff at VCOM.

ABOUT DR. EASTON: Although born in Savannah, Georgia in 1969, Dr. Easton considers Virginia his home. He is married to Kathryn and has three children, Mary, John, and Hannah. The Easton's reside in Lebanon, Virginia and enjoy church and family activities. Most of all, Dr. Easton enjoys spending time with his family. He coaches recreational soccer, basketball and baseball. He loves the outdoors and spends some of his free time hiking, riding bikes and going on picnics. Dr. Easton holds an interdisciplinary BA degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, awarded in 1991. He graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine with an MD degree in 1997. In 2000, Dr. Easton completed three years of training at the University of Virginia Family Medicine Residency Program in Charlottesville. Dr. Easton maintains medicine, pediatric, and ICU admitting privileges at Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon. He also sees patients at adult care facilities in Lebanon, and at Maple Grove Health Care Center, a 60-bed nursing home, also in Lebanon. Among Dr. Easton's professional interests are evidence-based medicine and pediatrics. In addition, he has gone on a few medical mission trips and enjoys serving the poor. He also loves to teach students and residents. |

He is board certified in Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Professional interests include occupational medicine and biomedical engineering, and he is Director of PCA Occupational Medicine. Outside interests include music and missions; Dr. Lamb performs with a brass ensemble, and he has participated in a number of international medical missions to South America and Africa. He was a team member of PCA’s own medical mission to Gulfport, Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. |

ABOUT DR. LAUTENSCHLAEGER: Natascha Lautenschlaeger, M.D. is a board-certified family medicine physician. She completed residency at the Mayo Clinic in Florida and also completed an Academic Research Fellowship at the University of Utah. She is currently pursuing ‘Fellow in Wilderness Medicine’ training. She joined the MAHEC faculty in Hendersonville in October 2008. Dr. Lautenschlaeger is the medical director at HFHC and has full privileges at Pardee Hospital. She is fluent in German. Her interests include teaching, integrated care, prevention and wellness. Outside of medicine she works on her 1971 VW beetle, plays violoncello, and is “owned” by a Newfoundland dog. |

ABOUT DR. LEONG: Apollo Leong, M.D. completed medical school and family practice residency at the Medical College of Virginia. Prior to joining Primary Care Associates he was an Associated Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Associate Medical Director of the multi-site Rainbow Community Health Program in Milwaukee Wisconsin. His area of medical interest is preventive health care through the integration of exercise, nutrition and homeopathic therapy with traditional allopathic medicine. He and his wife (also a physician) are active in the Roanoke business community and own the Isaacs Mediterranean Restaurant as well as the jewelry-bead store Beads Indeed. |

ABOUT DR. MAHARTY: Donald C. Maharty, D.O. graduated medical school from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, Family Medicine and his fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Maharty’s clinical experience has also expanded into the acute and emergent care fields. He has approximately 1200 hours performing as an Independent Emergency Room Physician. However, his primary emphasis has been clinical office based medicine and teaching consisting of full service Family medicine in the outpatient arena. Additionally, over the past several years Dr. Maharty has provided direct supervision to Family Medicine Residents, Medical Students, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. He has undergone further training at UNC-Chapel Hill and completed a Fellowship in Faculty Development. |

ABOUT DR. MELTON: Dr. Melton moved to Lebanon with his family in 2000 and opened C-Health in July 2000. He is married to Sarah Melton, PharmD. They have two daughters, Maggie and Claire. Dr. Melton completed his undergraduate studies at Washington and Lee University in 1989 and the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1993. He completed his residency through the University of Virginia, Department of Family Medicine in 1996. Dr. Melton also is also board certified with the Fellow American Academy of Family Physicians and is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner through the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners, both since 2002. |

ABOUT DR. ROGERS: After finishing his Bachelors degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Dr. Rogers completed a Master's degree in Health Care Ethics from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, followed by his Osteopathic Medicine degree from Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center. He then went on and completed his family medicine residency training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a Sports Medicine fellowship at Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Virginia Tech. His primary interests are in sports medicine, health promotion and preventive care, undergraduate medical education and osteopathic manual medicine. He currently also serves as a team physician for Virginia Tech Athletics. |

ABOUT DR. SMITH: S. Keith Smith, M.D. graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston after completing his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from Clemson University. He served as Chief Resident at his Family Practice Residency program at Anderson Memorial Hospital. After completing his residency, he moved to Morganton to work at Medical Heights Family Practice, which later became Burke Primary Care. Dr. Smith is married to Kim Ervin, a Morganton native. They have three children, Dorothy, Stephen and Caroline. The Smiths have horses, cats and dogs and live on a small farm. Dr. Smith enjoys being outdoors when he can. He has an interest in chronic disease management and occupational medicine. |

She completed her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina . She completed medical school and her residency in family medicine at East Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Kevin, running, hiking, and horseback riding. She and Kevin reside in Lebanon, Virginia where they also enjoy living in the mountains and adding to their collection of farm animals. |
