Current Research Interests: |
Dr. Prater is a veterinary pathologist and immunotoxicologist who serves as Associate Professor and Chair of Immunology at the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Prater’s two major research interests are heat illness and the immune system, and developmental immunotoxicology: relationship between maternal dietary choices and gestational environment and fetal genotypic and phenotypic development, and the contribution of gestational environment to risk of chronic disease in adult offspring (which is also known as developmental origins of adult health and disease). Dr. Prater’s research focus is molecular mechanistic explanation of modifiable environmental risk factors, and the role of the immune system in the regulation of homeostasis and preservation of long-term health. |
