AOA Category 1-B credit may be awarded for osteopathic preceptoring. Osteopathic physicians serving as preceptors in any AOA approved osteopathic medical education program may be granted Category 1-B credit. A maximum of 60 hours of AOA Category 1-B for preceptoring may be applied to the 120-hour requirement as designated by the approved Category 1 College of Osteopathic Medicine. Physicians participating in the clinical education of VCOM students may earn one hour of AOA 1-B credit for each hour of instruction with a medical student. The AOA accepts CME credit reports from the CME sponsor, VCOM, but does not accept individual CME requests from physicians. The AOA applies only 20 category 1-B CME hours per year (60 during the three year cycle) for preceptors toward fulfillment of the 120 hour requirement.
