Alleghany Regional Hospital - Low Moor, VA

Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, Virginia is a 156-bed acute-care medical/surgical hospital. The medical staff represents a wide variety of specialties. In addition to 66 general medical and surgical beds, ARH offers six pediatric rooms, a 18-bed Intensive Care Unit, five Operating Rooms, one cystoscopy room, two endoscopy rooms, and a six-bed Emergency Department. The Alleghany Birthing Center has four labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms, and a large caesarian-section room.

Cariliona Franklin Memorial Hospital's 37-bed community hospital is located in Rocky Mount, Va., and has over 280 employees. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 1999, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH) has been providing premiere healthcare services to the residents of western Virginia for a full century. In addition to offering high-tech services, the hospital is also a major teaching affiliate for the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Clinch Valley Medical Center - Richlands, VA

Clinch Valley Medical Center (www.clinchvalleymedicalcenter.com/) is an important part of the area since 1938; today CVMC has 200 licensed beds, over 500 employees, and a medical staff of more than 80 physicians representing a wide range of medical specialties. The 2003 "America's Top Hospitals" issue of Money magazine identified Clinch Valley Medical Center as one of the top 25 hospitals in the country for treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Approximately 400 babies are born at the hospital each year.

Danville Regional Medical Center - Danville, VA

Danville Regional Health System (www.danvilleregional.org) began more than 120 years ago with 28 women and a vision as the Ladies Benevolent Society Home of the Sick. Over the years the hospital has grown to the current medical center which has a Center for Radiation Oncology, state of the art critical care and cardiac catheterization labs and orthopedic/neurological units. A new home for the Women's and Children's Center was built in 2001. In early 2002, construction began on the Heart Center of the Piedmont and in March 2003, the Heart Center performed the very first open heart surgery in the Dan River Region of Virginia and North Carolina. In 2004, the many services of Danville Regional Health System continue are committed to providing healthcare excellence close to home.

Johnston Memorial Hospital - Abingdon, VA

The year 2005 marks Johnston Memorial Hospital's (www.jmh.org/) 100th anniversary. Established in 1905 by Dr. E.T. Brady, the 12-bed facility was was originally housed in a small wooden cabin. Dr. George Ben Johnston and Dr. Amis Willis took control of the hospital in 1919, constructing a new building and adding laboratory and radiology services.It was incorporated as a community-owned, non-profit organization, in the 1940s and soon after pediatric, physical therapy, and surgical services were added.


JMH is now a modern medical center that is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and has more than 700 employees and 120 medical staff members. Non-invasive cardiology services, an emergency room expansion, an open MRI, and a central energy plant are just a few of the hospital's most recent additions. The facilities have expanded, equipment has been added, and technology has been upgraded, but the tradition of caring has always been present.

Lewis-Gale Medical Center - Salem, VA

This medical center (www.lewis-gale.com) is a 521-bed tertiary facility; the medical center has provided state-of-the art medical care for residents of the Roanoke Valley and Southwest Virginia for nearly 100 years. The Regional Cancer Center at Lewis-Gale provides state of the art treatment; cardiac care services include a comprehensive emergency care Chest Pain Center, diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures. Southwest Virginia Fertility Center at Lewis-Gale Medical Center offers a full array of advanced reproductive technologies for female and male infertility patients. More than 10,000 babies have been delivered in the last 10 years.

Montgomery Regional Hospital- Blacksburg, VA

Montgomery Regional Hospital, (www.mrhospital.com) located on Route 460 on the southern edge of Blacksburg, Virginia, is a fully-accredited, 146-bed general acute care facility providing medical, surgical, obstetrical, pediatric, emergency, and outpatient services. In partnership with our network of five hospitals, MRH offers comprehensive healthcare in Southwest Virginia.

Since its opening in 1971, MRH has been committed to meeting the growing healthcare needs of the community. Situated on a 40-acre tract, the hospital's services and facilities include:

  • The Southwest Virginia Heartburn Treatment Center at Montgomery Regional Hospital featuring the services of a nurse coordinator and comprehensive patient care, education, and referral services for those suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease.

The Mountain Area Health Education Center is the center of excellence for improving the health of Western North Carolina. Located in Asheville, MAHEC serves healthcare professionals, students, and institutions throughout a 16-county region in Western North Carolina. Counties served are Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, and Yancey. Norton Community Hospital - Norton, VA

Norton Community Hospital (www.nchosp.org) is a 129 bed not-for-profit facility. A recently completed $3.3 million Radiology renovation enables them to house some of the region's most advanced clinical and diagnostic medical technology. Over 80 physicians are on-staff representing an array of specialties. Norton Community Hospital underwent a $12 million internal renovation and expansion project to improve patient comfort, convenience, and privacy.

Pulaski Community Hospital - Pulaski, VA

Riverside Regional Medical Center - Newport News, VA

Rowan Regional Medical Center – Salisbury, NC

Russell County Medical Center - Lebanon, VA

Russell County Medical Center (www.rcmc.net), in Lebanon, Virginia is the county's sole hospital. RCMC is a 78-bed facility and has offered a wide range of primary care and specialized health services for more than 60 years. It has modern surgical facilities, including a large outpatient Surgery Center and a busy Emergency Department. Salem Veteran's Medical Center- Salem, VA

The Salem VA Medical Center is a 282-bed, VA tertiary referral center and teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services with state-of-the-art technology. Salem serves veterans throughout the State of Virginia for psychiatric, medical, and surgical care, and the medical center serves as a VA tertiary referral center for acute and long-term psychiatric care. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in the areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care.

Shenandoah Memorial Hospital – Woodstock, VA

Shenandoah Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed facility that has served its community since 1951. SMH offerings include around-the-clock emergency services, out-patient surgery, cardiopulmonary services, medical imaging, a family birthing center, diabetes management, inpatient and outpatient rehab, behavioral health services, sleep lab, wellness programs and health screenings.  The hospital is supported by a team of physicians, a number of whom are employed by SMH.

Southside Community Hospital

Southside Community Hospital (www.sch-farmville.org/), chartered in 1925, is a not-for-profit, charitable organization. The hospital, established in 1927, serves the residents of Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward Counties. Spartanburg Regional Medical Center – Spartanburg, SC

W.G. "Bill" Hefner Veterans Hospital - Salisbury, NC

Primary and secondary inpatient health care are available at VAMC (http://www.salisbury.va.gov/) to more than 287,000 veterans living in a 23-county area of the Central Piedmont Region of North Carolina.  This includes the Charlotte area with over 100,000 veterans, and the Winston-Salem area with 65,000 veterans.

Inpatient services include acute medicine, cardiology, surgery, psychiatry and physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as sub-acute and extended care.  Primary and specialized outpatient services are provided at the medical center complex and the community based outpatient clinics. Services are also provided at the Veterans Outreach Centers Centers in Greensboro and Charlotte.  Contractual extended care is provided through an extensive residential care treatment program and a community nursing home program.

Warren Memorial Hospital – Front Royal, VA

Located in Front Royal, Warren Memorial Hospital has 76 licensed acute care beds and a 120-bed nursing facility with 96 long-term care beds and a 24-bed skilled nursing unit. The hospital offers emergency services, a broad array of surgical options, maternity services and more. Warren Memorial embraces the Planetree model of patient-centered care. In 2008 it opened an outpatient facility on Commerce Avenue that includes occupational health, outpatient rehabilitation services, and physician offices.

Winchester Medical Center - Winchester, VA

Winchester Medical Center, a 411-beds facility, offers a full range of medical, surgical, diagnostic and rehabilitation services, and participates in a variety of clinical trials. Centers of excellence include heart & vascular services, neurosciences, stroke care, medicine, bariatrics, oncology and women & children’s services. WMC is the only Level II Trauma Center in the region and serves as the tertiary services hub for Valley Health Shenandoah Valley corridor.

Wythe County Community Hospital - Wytheville, VA

Wythe County Community Hospital (www.wcch.org) provides a comprehensive continuum of locally accessible primary, secondary and community-based health services as a primary health care resource for the community. The hospital has 104 licensed beds. There are 280 births each year, 840 inpatient surgeries and 2,500 outpatient surgeries each year.

Bath County Hospital - Hot Springs, VA

Bath Community Hospital (www.bcchospital.org) is a not-for-profit, critical access hospital committed to providing high-quality, mission driven health care. The hospital has a licensed capacity of 25 beds for acute or skilled care. The medical staff, nursing staff, and other health care professionals all function as a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless delivery of care for all of our patients. Twenty-four hour emergency services, home health and hospice care are provided, as well as a select range of diagnostic services, rehabilitative services and specialty clinics.


Buchanan General Hospital - Grundy, VA

Buchanan General Hospital (www.bgh.org) is a 134-bed hospital who is staffed with skilled physicians of various specialties, and employs over 300 dedicated support staff. Services include: Acute Care; Emergency Care; Cardiac Care; Cancer Care; Intensive Care; Outpatient Services; Physical Therapy; Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology; Nuclear Medicine; General and Orthopedic Surgical Services.


Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital - Pearisburg, VA

Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital (CGMH) has been the champion for healthcare in this region for more than 50 years. Dickenson Community Hospital - Clintwood, VA

Dickenson Community Hospital (www.dchosp.com/), located in Clintwood, Virginia opened in November 2003.  It is a 25-bed not-for-profit Critical Access Hospital owned by Norton Community Hospital. The hospital's servcies include: 24-hour Emergency Care, 3-D Ultrasound, Bone Densitometry, CT Scan, EKG, Geriatric Care, Holter Monitoring, a 3-bed Intensive Care Unit, Laboratory Services, a 22-bed Medical Unit, Radiology Services, Respiratory Services, and Telemetry.

 


Lee County Hospital - Pennington Gap, VA

Lee Regional Medical Center, an 80-bed facility, has operated in Pennington Gap, Va., for more than 70 years. The hospital joined the Wellmont system in 2007.

Lee Regional Medical Center provides 24-hour emergency services, as well as a broad array of inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services. The hospital also offers inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation.


Lonesome Pine Hospital - Big Stone Gap, VA

Lonesome Pine Hospital is a 60-bed facility that has nearly 100 board-certified or board-eligible physicians. The community of Big Stone Gap, Va., relies on Lonesome Pine Hospital for the best in emergency care, intensive care and obstetrics, as well as their medical/surgical/pediatric unit. The hospital's outpatient services include radiology, physical therapy and surgical services. They also provide the most high-tech cancer care through the Southwest Virginia Cancer Center.

1st Medical Group's 786 personnel maintain a full-service, 40-bed hospital providing inpatient, outpatient and urgent care, as well as two satellite clinics at the Bethel Manor base housing area and Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport News, Va.

On-base medical services include:Audiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Flight Medicine, Gynecology, Health and Wellness, Internal Medicine,Mental Health, Obstetrics (inpatient as well as outpatient), Ophthalmology, Optometry, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Radiology (with CT) and Urology. Womack Army Medical Center - Fayetteville, NC

Womack Army Medical Center has increased quality care and access to beneficiaries by bringing more medical and specialized resources to Fort Bragg. Some of the specialties added since the current facility became a medical center include cardiology, hematology-oncology and pulmonology. The Army Medical Department is committed to providing quality, cost-efficient care for "The Total Army Family." Womack Army Medical Center is proud to serve the more than 160,000 eligible beneficiaries in the region, the largest beneficiary population in the Army. This facility has three connecting buildings. Building "A" is the clinic mall area at the All American Expressway entrance and it houses the outpatient clinics. Building "B", which is the building in the middle, houses most of our ancillary clinics and departments. Building "C", the inpatient tower, is located at the Reilly Road entrance. The inpatient tower is seven floors with an interstitial space between each floor that allows computer, equipment, plumbing etc… to be repaired without interrupting patient care.

Smyth County Community Hospital – Marion, VA

Nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia's southwest corner, Smyth County Community Hospital (http://www.scchosp.org/) has a 40-plus year history of providing quality healthcare services. We are a 50-bed, acute care, community-based hospital located in Marion. In addition to the hospital we have a 109 bed nursing care facility on our campus that offers both skilled nursing care and nursing care - Francis Marion Manor. We have a variety of outreach programs including Homecare.

The hospital has modern equipment including a full body spiral Siemens CT Scanner; with mobile MRI and Lithotripsy, also available along with an excellent outpatient and inpatient surgery unit.

Southwestern Virginia Mental Institute – Marion, VA

Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SWVMHI) is a 172-bed state psychiatric institute operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). The Institute serves adult, geriatric, and adolescent individuals. 

SWVMHI's campus, located in rural Smyth County consists of over 40 maintained acres of land (approximately 100 acres total) with 24 buildings including its heating plant. 

Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute consists of an Adolescent Unit (16-bed unit), Adult Acute Treatment Unit (60-bed unit), Geriatric Unit (40-bed unit), Extended Rehabilitation Unit (50-bed unit), and a Medical Acute Care Unit (6-bed unit).

While the training sites are subject to change without notice to students, those students who are in clinical rotations at the time of the change will be accommodated for the duration of the rotation when possible. Rotation site changes will be updated to the class choosing rotations annually.
