Exceptional dissections are featured on our webpage (above) and become part of the plastination project. The plastination project (internally sponsored) allows faculty and students to contribute to the “museum” of anatomical structures, most of which are used for teaching and some are displayed in the library and during outreach activities. Departmental personnel contribute to our institutional mission by participating in the Anatomy Outreach program, a program in which high school students from rural Appalachia visit and spend time in the gross lab learning about anatomy and health related topics.
Anatomy Summer Enrichment Experience (SEE) – High school students from underserved and underrepresented groups participate in a week long anatomy immersion experience comprised of numerous hands-on activities held in the anatomy lab and library. The goal of the program is to provide an educational opportunity to young people about the human body, osteopathic medicine and to make them cognizant on the consequences of poor health. To view a human organ, touch a calcified arterial plaque, or see first-hand the appearance of an arthritic joint exemplifies the visual language of anatomy.
